"rock 'n' roll", "rhythm & blues", "gospel" or "funk", etc. I also must agree with a previous poster that a few years ago there was more bluesrock than blues and the bar / club circuit "suffered" from to many generic SRV clones.Ī list of upcoming concerts & festivals: RootsvilleĬlick to expand.Yes, some festival lineups are definitely curated better than others in terms of the range of blues subgenres covered and/or adherence to some accommodating standard of what constitutes "blues" vs. The only "roots" music i know which popularity kinda dwindled is Cajun / Zydeco (which had a "revival" 10-20 years ago). And like i said: also tons of European bands. From the above list only a few names don't ring a bell. Especially in Belgium and the Netherlands. There are dozens of blues and roots festivals all over many European countries. Some bands are veterans but also plenty of young guns. Many of these bands don't stay inside the boundaries of a particular genre but combine various styles. Over here there are a zillion active blues, rock&roll, rockabilly, swing & roots / alt. Especially from a European standpoint: the Blues is Alive & Well.
